Photoshop Product Manager, Stephen Nielson, demonstrates how you can use new linked Smart Objects to improve collaboration and work more efficiently. Linked Smart Objects can reference files stored on your local system or local network drive so now you can use the same object in multiple Photoshop documents, change it one time, and have that change flow through your Photoshop documents.

Um mine ain’t updating..
It keeps saying this

Adobe Photoshop:
Can’t save this document back to its original file format. Flatten layers and discard extra data as necessary then choose file > Save again.

You can save the file using File > Save As, but the associated smart objects will not be updated.

Is this supposed to work is the file is a .tiff? Modifying the .tiff does not seem to update on the master .psd file for me.

This should have been in there years ago, its called instancing, stop calling everything 'smart', smart blur, smart object, smart sharpen. what do you do next? super smart sharpen?

also only illustrator files? you should be linking in other Photoshop docs. so you have a 'logo' doc that you instance into your file. come on guys. GET WITH IT

Great idea, but you don't say how to get this working. I've tested and I don't get an updates or notification on my layers.  Is there a link to more on this?

Does anyone remember this feature being there all the way back in CS3 or so? I remember using it to add wedding photo psd's to an album psd. If I changed the original photo PSD's, the album would sync those changes. Am I crazy??

Linked smart object files (like InDesign) in photoshop is stupid. Why do they keep complicating it?

Show the process and the screen. Not your face. I'm sure there's all I need in there. Just can't see anything...
