Scar is a genius, calculating, hyper-rational guy. Added that he's also deeply bitter and resentful towards the whole royal family and how they 'betrayed' him (at least thats how he felt - he felt that he deserve better). This enables him to come up with a cold-blooded coup plan. He got it all almost right - his strategy and tactic are brilliant. Unfortunately he lacks control of the operational arena. He should have made sure that Simba is completely dead, that the hyenas 'slit his throat.' That would preempt the exact event that leads to his own demise.

All things aside, his ability as a strategic thinker, along with his cold, narcissistic, yet vulnerable and resentful personality, makes him an (almost) unstoppable villain that he's better be killed than to be exiled. One more thing: he is not a wizard/deity with abundant power (like Hades or Maleficient), neither he is an influential public figure or sort in terms of decision-making (like Jafar or Frollo). He is despised by his own society, he is beaten and shameful, yet he is still capable to organize a smooth coup plan while still being seen as innocent by scapegoating Simba. Genius. I wanna have his 'lion's share of intelligence'....

Scar was my favorite. Maleficent was my first as a little kid, but Scar later knocked her into 2nd place. Also, another reason why he is the best is that he NEVER told his plans to the protagonists. Everything was on him and the hyenas.

Fun fact: when recording "Be Prepared, " Jeremy Irons threw out his voice on the line "You won't get a sniff without me" and couldn't continue recording. So they brought Jim Cummings (Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Ray in "Princess and the Frog") to sing the rest of the song doing an impression Jeremy Irons. If you listen super closely, you can hear certain parts that sound exactly like Tigger.

I loved Hades. He was one of those villains that you HAVE to laugh at. In my opinion, he was the best part of the movie. But, I must say, Scar is the best villain

Honestly, I'm surprised Izma got as far as she did in the tournament, as awesome as she is. Either way, favorite Scar moment is Be Prepared, just... The whole song, that or "I'm surrounded by idiots" such a quotable line.
