'I haven’t seen old Hitler' - British WW2 Song

'I haven't seen old Hitler' is a British song about the closing events of the Second World War, when we were fighting back the Germans and liberating France. The earliest recording of the song I could find is from 1995, so I am unsure if the song is contemporary from the war or an anachronism from later on.

You may question many parts of the British military, but you can’t deny they are always somehow able to create a jolly tune that disses their opponent

The cherry on top of this anti-Nazi sundae is the klezmer influence. Just adding kosher salt in the wound.

I love how they include "Prussia" and "Germany" in the list of cousins. Like: it's Hitler whos the problem

Just realized that this is technically a diss track, them british we’re roasting Hitler harder than he roasted Russia in 1941

What I like about the cousins part is it is saying that it isn't the German people who are the problem, just the people in power

The actual end of the British Empire happened in 1997 when the British handed Hong Kong back to China. Though Britain still maintains overseas territories the handover marked the final end of Britain's empire. The British Empire was at it's largest in 1919 after Britain acquired Germany's East and West African colonies and Samoa in the Treaty of Versailles, which marked the end of the First World War 1914 to 1918.

Had two Uncles in the 8th Army in North Africa. Their unit commander was approached by a Egyptian official, who wanted to commend the dignity and respect shown by British soldiers, who he had observed standing and singing the Egyptian national anthem in a Cairo cinema .He apparently hadn't understood what they were singing about King Farouk!😂
