Repeating Copy, Rotation and Scaling of Objects with Memory Copy - SketchUp Plugin of the Week

Показать описание
This week's extension will allow you to repeat copies along with movement, rotation, and scale in SketchUp!
------------------------------------------------
One of the things that you will find yourself doing often in SketchUp is making copies of objects. However, sometimes, you want to do more than just make a copy. Today’s plugin of the week allows you to repeat an array of adjustments to an object, rather than just a single movement. Today’s plugin is called memory copy.
Plugin Name: Memory Copy
Plugin Developer: Adam Billyard
How Much does it cost? Free!
Where do you get it?
It’s located in the SketchUcation extension warehouse. I’ll link to it in the notes down below.
Tool Functions
This tool is very simple but very effective. It stores modifications you make to an object and allows you to repeat them.
For example – let’s say that I want to create a copy of this object, but then I also want to rotate the object, then continue making copies in this way.
What you would do is create a copy of this object. As best as I can tell, this only works with components, so make sure you’ve modeled this as a component (just right click and select “Make Component”).
Now, select your original object, right click on it, and select “Play it again.” Then click on the new object you created. Each new click creates a new copy of your object.
Not only will this work with rotation, it will also work with scale, so you can scale, move, and rotate an object then repeat.
This extension is very simple, it doesn’t have a whole bunch of options, but it does what it needs to do. It opens up a lot of new possibilities in your modeling, and it’s free! Download it and play around with it today!
That’s where we’re going to wrap up this plugin overview. If you liked this video, click that like button down below. If you’re new, click that subscribe button for more SketchUp videos every week.
As always, leave a comment below and let me know if you’re using this tool and how.
Finally, please consider supporting me on Patreon. As you know, The SketchUp essentials is a side project for me, and a lot of these tools and extensions cost money. By supporting me on Patreon, you help me be able to purchase licenses for new softwares to keep bringing you new plugin reviews and other SketchUp content. Even a dollar a month helps.
In either case, thanks very much for watching, and I’ll catch you in the next video.

Hi Justin, I agree. You really are great at explaining and stuff. Love to watch your videos. Also you come up with new stuff like this plugin or you come up with stuff I already know but then you show me new possibilities I did not think of. Great!

Hi, at 0:59 when you about to rotate the object, theres a small centre point so the rotate tool is at the exact center, how do i get this point?

Amazing video, I found out it works like magic with sketchyphysics. Cuz everything copied is its own thing. Sure I have to spam the mouse button like a maniac to copy 100 things, but I guess that can't be helped. Used it to make Archimedes screw for a project. This extension is amazing.

Interesting plugin for sure... ....but it still doesn't do what I'm looking for ...perhaps there is a way to do what i want and im just missing it? suppose I create a 360 degree array of (for gigles) 120 spheres that are evenly spaced around the origin in a the array ends up being too big, therefore all the copies of the spheres surrounding the circle have spaces between them and I want them to there any sort of scaling tool or proceedure that will allow me to grab all the spheres around the circle and scale them in towards the origin of the circle (until they touch) WITHOUT effecting the size of the spheres/objects in the array (Or whatever shape i decide to use )....??

I tried using it with sketchup 2017 and followed instructions, but left clicking ended up merely creating copies of the copy in the same place without moving xd does it need an update?
