Most of the original Outfit said Al (himself) wasn't really violent. These were very different guys. It would've had to be while he was a guard for Maranzano.

Al Capone was afraid of the Purple Gang based out of Detroit (who were controlling a large portion of river cross border liquor smuggling out of Canada) They were psychotic & fearless mostly Jewish mobsters, even double crossing & wiping out their own gang members for profits. He stayed outta their way or paid their negotiated delivery price. (when his own airplanes & speedboat's weren't available or not being hijacked)

It wasn't until they became weakened due to mass arrests & infighting (with the end of Prohibition) that an Italian faction in Detroit (which later became the original LCN family) picked them off one by one.
