Dr. Jordan B. Peterson has said that he thinks Russia would win the war in Ukraine. He has only made brief remarks about this, but why? I will try to address that here.

Peterson trying to sell Russia's invasion of a democratic neighbour as "justified" or "understandable" due to "Western decadence" (ie, we're tolerant) totally qualifies him for that fine Soviet-era classification: "useful idiot".

JP is a fellow Canadian, but has descended into being a crackpot...much like RFK Jr.

Peterson has gone completely off the deep end

I do not trust Jordan Peterson's opinion. He would've said 'Hitler is too strong, we should just give in'.

He's also enamored of the myth of Russian 'manly-men'. Whereas Ukraine, in his view, embraces the 'weak', liberal values of Europe and the West. Also, Peterson is a psychologist, not a military analyst. He has near zero expertise for studying war.

I do not trust Jordan Peterson's opinion on anything.

Old JP was a different person to who he is today.
I've got 12 rules for life on my shelf right now, I read it and it changed my life.
The man you see on YouTube now spitting vitriolicly about this that and the other did not write this book.
Hell, even so far as 4 years ago he wasn't like this, and that was WELL within the time of his slide to the right. This is the time the sky news host tried to suggest he wanted to reorganize society in imitation of lobster hierarchy, he was solidly in the anti-woke camp, but he wasn't like this.

I saw a video of him angrily spitting on Canadians for supporting Ukraine, claiming it was a virtue signal and that "None of them really give a damn about Ukraine."
Which is painful to me since he should well know contrary to that.
The Ukrainian diaspora in Canada is the biggest of any Western country, they came in the 19th century at the behest of the Canadian government to help teach them how to survive the steppes of central Canada. You'd better believe they care a damn about Ukraine!!
Even as someone generally on his side, I can say JP has stared into the abyss and the abyss has stared into JP. The culture war has so utterly consumed him that he can see nothing outside it.

I actually followed Jordan Peterson for quite some time ... originally being a rational intellectual he became more and more vain directly proportional to his growing popularity. Probably his theory on lobsters and serotonin finally made him fall for mobsters like Putin and Trump.

You are being too kind. He is friends with people who are very pro-Russia, if not actually funded by Russia. He could not say otherwise.

I appreciate many points Jorden makes. His position on Ukraine is not one of them. A world ruled by bullies is not worth living in.

The point he is missing is Ukranian bravery.

Jordan Peterson probably thought Ukraine was finished in 2022. C'mon man!

Jordan Peterson mistakes the confused double speak that seems coherent one learns in the field of psychology as logic. I’m certain because this was my major. Speaking with confidence without having the underlying logic and reasoning flow is not a sign of intelligence. My best professors continually reminded me of how you could get swept up in the talk. One would regularly give graduate lectures with titles like “the biological basis of schizophrenia” and spend hours (these were graduate lectures) making that case. Then he would pass out a second set of notes with a title like “schizophrenia and it’s roots in demonic possession”, then make what on the surface seemed like coherent arguments. All this to continually remind us, be careful. It’s easy to run too far with what you think you know.

I used to consume a lot of Peterson's output until he made that video with his thoughts on Ukraine. Now, here are my thoughts, for what they're worth:
1. Peterson mentioned in his youth that he was terrified of nuclear war as a child and young man. I understand that. Peterson and I are both more or less the same age, and the early 80s were scary. Some people did react by thinking "Better red than dead". I think he still has those same fears.
2. Peterson has 100% joined the anti'woke crusade and is an active participant in the polarization of society that this has caused. Both the Russians and the Ukrainians feel much the same way. Putin emphasizes this to get the attention of conservatives and differentiate himself from the West, while Ukraine downplays it, so as not to fall foul of Democrats who might use it as a reason to block US assistance. Peterson therefore gravitates to Russia ideologically, having fallen for Putin's trap.
3. As Peterson has become more famous, the fame has gone to his head. His choice of clothing has changed. He now delivers his "message" on topics unrelated to his field of expertise, as if what he says is of great importance. He is an "influencer" and is starting to believe in his own importance.
IMHO (I am just someone giving his opinion which means nothing to anyone but me) Vlad Vexler was spot on about him, he should stick to his own area of expertise and responsibility. Anything outside of that has no more value that what your average taxi driver would say.

You don't need to make excuses for him, it's classic Dunning-Kruger effect. This is not an area he knows much about. He's not an idiot, and I think he does have some insightful things to say in his specific area of interest, but you need to be careful with people like him because he will speak about things he doesn't know much about and things he does with the same tone and certainty.

Jordan Peterson is now an influencer so when he opines on subjects he is not qualified, this is not worth much. He may as well do some Tik Tok dances for the clicks... I'll start to worry when Anders Puck Nilsen starts saying that there is no way to stop Russia...

He thinks Russia will win because he wants it to. It's called Motivated Reasoning. Besides, who cares what he thinks? Does he know anything at all about military matters?

Peterson talks about gulag archipelico so much, you think he'd recognize some parallels with Putin's regime.

Peterson is a "knowitall".
He frequently comments on subjects he knows little about.
