Why didn’t Plagueis? Short answer, hubris. Long answer is that they are so confident that they’re special that they never see it coming. In Sidious’ case he hadn’t taught Vader everything so by Bane Logic he wouldn’t have to deal with Vader surpassing him yet. He didn’t count on just how hard the Force would rebound with Anakin
