2021 Toyota Camry Ascent Hybrid FULL Review

The Toyota Camry hybrid system uses a 2.5-litre four-cylinder Atkinson cycle petrol engine that works in seamless combination with a pair of electric motor generators to deliver a maximum output of 160kW.
When you do a roadtrip, and you don’t want an SUV, you want space, right? Toyota Camry Hybrid is restrained to the point of coma, but by gosh it is a comfy drive.
It has all the hallmarks of Camry models of the past, but has undergone a nip and tuck, with new tech being shoved into it to bring it up to snuff.

Outside:
The exterior is quite handsome, but still conservative.
Our base model had 17” alloys which I thought to be quite nice, but David thought old fashioned.
The lines are quite elegant, with a hint of LEXUS here and there. Camry looks long and low, as the most common type of car on the road now is an SUV. Blacksmith Bronze glistened like a jewel, and although I might not have been too keen on it in the first instance, I love it in the sun.
The bootspace is huge (524L), and like the cabin doors are accessed via key entry. If you have to get a key out of your pocket these days, you’re camping.

I was blown away how smooth Camry is .. it’s brilliant

Super-smooth bump absorbing ride with still very good handling - quite a feat at the price ! Love the auto EV mode in slow traffic crawl - no petrol engine coming on most of the time in traffic crawl - still with great electric air con on (no pully's or serpentine belt). If I see a Merc or a BMW I do not get envious at all - in fact I feel sorry for the price they have to pay and the extra fuel they pay. I regularly get 4.8 - 4.9 L / 100 klms. On a smooth hwy run I actually got a surprise to find I was getting 4.2 L / 100 klms. Every time I get in to drive it now, it feels like a treat. The longer I have the Ascent Sport, the more I like it ! (6 months old now). The three things that surprised me about the car was that it had electric folding side mirrors, gas struts for the hood instead of a stick to hold the bonnet up and a gas strut on the boot lid to cushion the remote opening.

Car of choice for the uber driver doesn't excite but typical Toyota does everything right and user friendly and long term durability have been in some Camry taxis with 400+kms and still functioning properly .It's crying shame they ditched that beautiful V6 punched about 200kw went like a rocket 🚀 silky smooth best V6 in the business

AT 8:23... Reversing camera a bit of a weak point for Toyota? More than a bit! My 2021 Kluger Grande's reversing camera is worse than my old 2008 Grande. I'll repeat that so it really sinks in: after 13 years of evolution THE REVERSING CAMERA QUALITY IS WORSE! How poor is it? It's so poor I still need to look at my rear-view mirrors to make sure there are no kids, dogs or bikes behind me. How does Toyota get away with this crap? And don't get me started on Google Auto. My phone's UHD+ resolution screen appears on the 8" infotainment screen at what looks like 480p. You can see EVERY SINGLE PIXEL. I expect Apple Car Play is the same. Come on you guys. Tell it like it is. The infotainment screen and reversing camera are crap! The rest of the car is pretty good.
