Hornby are producing a newly tooled model of the utterly unique LNER Class W1 "Hush Hush" locomotive in OO gauge! We got a closer look at the early 3D printed samples for the model, which will cover both original and rebuilt conditions.

Now this is a very special locomotive. Has a maritime water tube boiler as was an attempt at improving power and efficiency.

The LNER W1, so radical and successful (within reason) but sadly it wasn’t massively reliable but after rebuilding you could call it a Super A4

Best thing they have announced - I hope it's as good as it should be.

I'm not a fan of the Hush Hush engine, I don't like the design much. I prefer the A4 design. I suppose the Hush Hush is different in a good way. But it's just not my cup of tea.

I simply say bring these locomotives back. They are beautiful. Not like the trains today. Characterless and not on time.
