“Hush-hush” was just of the nicknames given to this engine. Another one, given because of the shape of its boiler, was “Galloping Sausage”!

Now I can really understand why Gordon took offense to being called that.

It's kind of -ironic- fitting that the model of this failed experimental engine is also seen as disappointing.

The W1 was rebuilt in 1936, so around 7 years after its construction in 1929, not the same year

I like how you speak quickly into the intro of your video, because of the name of the engine. 😂Hush Hush

Now I know why Gordon was called a “Galloping Sausage”

The part about this model that gets me the most is the rear pony truck, that in many examples I've seen doesn't even rolled along the track. That's like, pretty basic stuff that you need to do right? Make sure that all the wheels on a train are on the track?

I have W1 in her later rebuilt condition but in BR green, I recently ordered some custom metal cast plates for mine, with the proposed name Pegasus. BTW, W1 was built in 1929 but rebuilt in 1936

They should had named this locomotive Galloping Sausage.

Omg. That colour must be one of the best ive ever seen on a locomotive. It just fits the engine kind of like a torpedo. In colour and shape

While I like the W1 I prefer its rebuilt design with the modified A4 boiler

She is technically a Hudson (What we call a 4-6-4 in America)

Fun fact: when the W1 was rebuilt with a regular boiler, she was streamlined like an A4, but she had a larger cab to fit the trailing truck.
Also, Her tender is being used by Union of South Africa.
There's also an image floating around of her next to a few A4s.
And she was planned to have a name, two actually: She was going to be British Enterprise in 1929, and nameplates were cast, but never fitted. The other name was going to be Pegasus, but noting came of it. She was renumbered as 60700 in 1948 and was withdrawn on 1st, June 1959, and was scrapped later that year.
