The American people want a long-form open discussion between the candidates. Not a 2 minute back and forth where nothing is accomplished.

If a 3 minute answer were allowed, this might have been a different story. Two minutes was way way too little time to tackle important questions

They both didn’t stick to their time limits... this isn’t a one sided thing...

asking a question, having the candidate answer in 2 minutes, then moving to the other candidate for two minutes is not a debate. a debate is a natural back and forth that evolves as it progresses. eventually someone will become dominant, which is how you know whose winning. idk what to call these things, but debates they are NOT

Imagine having to tackle tough questions about things such as racial justice and foreign policy in a 2 minute window with little discourse. The fact both harris and pence went overtime doesn’t mean they are uncordial, it means 2 minutes isn’t enough time to answer the question thoroughly.

Are you kidding me? I was timing them and the commentator let Harris talk past her time several times but the instant Pence got to the two minutes she tried to stop him.

What happened about Kamalas minute and her thirty second time periods where she went a minute plus over

The whole 2 minute format is ridiculous, it's nowhere near enough time to articulate or explain anything.

Time it yourself you will get your answer. Journalism has been dead for years.

THE WASHINGTON POST COULDN'T STICK TO THE NEWS.

The moderator consistently cut Pence's time short and when he would go over time (which yes, is a violation of the rules) she would consistently interject to try and keep the debate moving forward, but when Harris went well over time, there were only one or two interjections vs. the constant "Vice President! Vice President!". Im all for enforcing the rules of the debate, but do it consistently

7 times before his two minutes were up Susan Page was telling him “time”.

I'm sorry but only Pence?! Harris did the same thing! If you want to point fingers, point it at the moderator

Are we going to ignore the two extra minutes she was given to “defend her record”?

You wouldn’t have noticed when Harris spoke overtime, because the biased moderator kept her mouth zipped when ever Kamala spoke over her time limit, instead of constantly saying “thank you” and “your time is up” like she did with pence.

Funny how WAPO readers have trouble seeing that the moderator would only cut Pence off when his time was off and not Kamala. Selective hearing I guess 🤷🏽‍♂️

1) Both went past their times often.
2) You're going to have this with two minute time limits and a laughable 15 second response.
3) Why are you not showing Harris going past her time?

Harris literally went over like 5 mins with little to no complaints at all from the moderator

Neither of them could? Why does the title only specify pence😂
