Fly Tying: Copper John Variant

In this fly tying tutorial, I show an easier version of the fish-catching nymph, the Copper John. In this version, I incorporate some characteristics of the Pheasant Tail, ala Frank Sawyer, hence the more appropriate name may be the Copper John & Frank!

Hi Tim, I have been tying flies for about one month now and at the beginning, I spent a fortune on needless materials, I have also been substituting materials myself and have been getting better flies and quicker too. It is good to see someone teaching us beginners how to substitute different materials and make flies cheaper. The one thing I hate is using dubbing, I just cannot handle it due to a problem with my left hand, so I tend to use pheasant tail instead, or wind on rough wool, which still works. I am looking forward to more of your videos. Thank You.

Nice job Tim;great explanation of each step.;One Question, The curing light you used on the loon thin did not look like the loon light, are the lights interchangeable?

Nicely done, Tim!! I will be tying some up for crappie and perch---no trout streams in Chicago:(((. I too use Allen hooks and I appreciate their high quality and honest prices. Did I see the Allen logo on your scissors?? Thanks for sharing and Merry

Hi Tim, I've been watching your copper john videos over and over thinking I missed the part where you explained it but I'm wondering why you don't tuck the lead wraps up into the bead, is it a balance issue or something else? Thanks, Rory
