The first free VPN on PC I want to cover is Atlas VPN. This is a freemium VPN, meaning it’s free, but also has a paid version with more features. It’s a great free VPN for Windows 10, especially for beginners. I found the UI extremely easy to get used to, there are no confusing bits, and it’s very minimalistic and straight to the point.

As far as free desktop VPN providers go, Atlas VPN is quite secure. It uses the latest encryption standard, paired with the modern tunneling protocol. That’s why it shows good performance in terms of speed as well. One thing that I don’t like about this free VPN on PC is the US jurisdiction. This country is famous for its data retention laws, but I believe that with a no-logs policy, there’s nothing to worry about. Now, as I said in the beginning, even the best free Windows VPN options are often limited, and Atlas VPN is no exception.

This is Proton VPN, yet another freemium VPN, meaning the free version is supported by paid customers, not data scraping. If you ever feel like your Windows VPN experience is lacking in variety - this is the option to go for. Unfortunately, Windscribe’s free version can’t be used for streaming, but it used to be possible before. Who knows, streaming could become an option in the future. That said, even if it does, a 10 Gb data limit is not enough for that, though it’s more generous than Atlas VPN.

I tried to download Proton and Atlas free downloads and both did not work. I kept getting a window for Proton that listed steps of turning off virus protection, firewall and trying to open the sites in Tor and both failed to download and work for free download.

i used to use proton but the latest update straight up sucks. you can't choose from the free server, they will pick it for you and it says they are picking the best one, but they really aren't. also you have to wait like 20 minutes to an hour before being able to request a server change.

I downloaded and used for FREE Atlas and ProtonVPN but the issue is that only few locations are for free. So yes, you can choose 3 locations but they are very limited options. in my case, I only get Netherlands and I wanted United Kingdom.
