Lizzie, your chosen translation of the Interior Castle is not true to Terese and described as first translation by a non Catholic. This is self evident early on when the translator opts to substitute the Lord with Beloved along with other words such as the devil and hell with other new age lingo and anti religion jargon. Better translations available that are Catholic.

Love the book "The Cries of Jesus from the Cross by Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen. It is a collection of 49 talks given by Archbishop Sheen that touch on the Beatitudes, the Virtues, the Seven Deadly Sins, how to deal with difficult people and how to deal with suffering. A must-read in my opinion. It is a classic.

I love The Interior Castle! I think the one you showed is the translation by Mirabai Starr? It's very beautiful, although she is not Catholic.

Love Upon This Rock! Helped me in my conversion immensely! The Confessions of St. Augustine totally amazing. I love ALL things Merton they are all very soulful. Scott & Kim Hahn - HUGE in my journey both meeting them and reading them. Highly recommend them for any couple on their way into the Church. Very interested to read the Marian books.

Random connection: when I taught Ecclesiology at CUA, Pecknold taught a class either immediately after or before mine in the same room. I can't remember which. I just remember exchanging pleasantries during the transition. He's a good guy.

Hey Lizzie! One Catholic book I totally recommend is In the Shadows of his Wings by By Father Gereon Goldmann~~ it's a really amazing read and his life is soooo inspiring, esp since he was forced to become a SS Nazi~ but eventually a priest.

Did you read Volume 2 of Pope Benedict XVI's book, "Jesus Of Nazareth." It goes from Holy Week to the Resurrection.

Once you read the Spirit of the Liturgy you will want to attend the Latin Mass and once you attend a few times you will not want to return to the Novus Ordo. BTW I would recommend you visit the St Michael Abbey ( Norbertine) in Orange County California
