My brother called cops for a mediator because he didn’t want to listen to our mother and do his chores. Cop came ant told him to listen to his mother. We still mention it from time to time.

I love that this cop asked the boy relevant question first before reprimanding him.

I don’t know what the kid expected. This is honestly best case. Worse case you end up in a foster home with other kids that will beat the shit out of you and parents that only care about their check. There is no going back either. You don’t get to decide that you don’t like it anymore so you wanna go home.

My family has employed the “you can call the cops you just wont like the wait for them” technique, safe to say didnt get an ass whooping after that

One of my friend’s kids mouthed off to her mom and then told her, “You can’t do anything about it because I learned in school you can’t do that. They’ll take you away!” Mom replied, “No, they won’t take me away. They’ll take YOU away.”
Cue deer-in-the-headlights look…. (Added note, btw, this mom didn’t use physical punishment).

My mom told us that she would pack our bags if we called the cops on her.😂😂😂 "Have fun in your new home".

And that is literally how generation X was raised lol. Everybody in the community was involved.

My Dad was extremely abusive to my youngest brother. I actually tried to entervene for him on several occasions. He would tell me to shut up or I'd be next. He abusively beat me once, but never did it again. I was maybe 8 years old. My brother is now reclusive and has issues with trusting anyone. I understand him. All of my other older siblings had left home and didn't know about Dad abusing him. If they did, they'd have more compassion and reach out to him with understanding.

In reality, old school cops give that lesson at the risk that mother would either be grateful or sue the department and win the "LA lottery" in an out if court settlement.

My mom always let dad dish out the belt. Wait till your father gets home was more than a threat at our house.

I do the same thing to my son for lying, disrespecting, or giving attitude to either his mom or I. Now he knows better.

I used to get hit by random people in the store at times. Mom worked a second job at Walmart and openly gave adults permission to hit me if they saw me acting foolish. A lot of my family worked too. The 90s. What a time.

The only times my parents spanked me was if I made a scene in a store or restaurant - usually over me wanting candy or something I didn’t need. It taught me manners and patience.

I'm not into hitting as discipline, but I really like how the cop asked questions to make sure the kid wasn't actually being abused
