A look at California’s $128 BILLION High - Speed Rail

Показать описание
California is constructing America's first full-scale high-speed rail line to connect San Francisco and Los Angeles, aiming to reduce travel time from 6 hours to under 3 hours. However, the project has faced serious problems, including a decade-long delay and a cost overrun of nearly $100 billion. Funding has been a major challenge, with the federal government providing limited support. The project's first phase, a smaller segment from Merced to Bakersfield, is currently under construction. Critics question the project's viability and funding, while supporters highlight progress made, job creation, and potential economic growth.

The project needs more Fed support; like they support highways, and airlines. If they can cover over 90% of the cost to build the interstate highway network, this should be a no-fucking-brainer.

I love the idea, I really do! It's amazing, but they aren't just getting enough support. I remember in the 80s when they were talking about this, and the 90s, and the 2000s, and the 2010s, and now the 2020s. I think they can do it as they've hit land now, but I'm still not really sure.

I really do hope we get some high-speed rail, though.

Saudi Arabia is building a whole entertainment city in the desert for less than 100 billion usd and yet we can’t even build a train for that much.

Problem is people still see high speed rail as an invest with return… you do get that social value, just not for the shareholders. In almost no country is that profitable still there are huge benefits for people and economy and that atleast where we live here in Europe outweighed the negative

you forgot Phase 2 which will be from Sacramento-San Diego

the airlines are doing their best to torpedo this project. The automobile companies, the bus companies, everybody that makes a living off of keeping people in cars has a vested interest in seeing CAHSR will not succeed.

I have way more hope for Brightline's high speed rail from LA to Las Vegas as its mostly funded privately and they just completed their Florida passenger train and its sweet!

They’ve been building in since 2008 and it took 15 years and 100 billion to do 31 miles

First chance they get, Republicans will have it cancelled. These big projects need to be planned, designed, managed, and built in-house.

HSR Is public transportation. Why USA Train lovers insist that you need cars to use rails including HSR. Funny, they love to compare to Japan. They don't want to admit that you don't need cars to use any trains in Japan.
Train lovers don't care about environment, traffic congestion, transit.
If they do, they will spend all the energies to improve public transportation in every city in CA like SF. If that happens, HSR makes more sense. Then train lovers can't give up their cars. They will continue to fight for HSR, and that includes making local public transportation even worse to have more budget to build the useless rails.
