Thank you sir, I have been watching your videos to improve my technical skills as graduate, I have one question . In this lecture, you said normal stress can change the cross-section area of a stress element. and the changes in cross-section are caused by shear stresses in other 2 directions. in other words, normal stress and shear stress must concurrently exists in each surface of stress element. However, when comes to a object only subject to uniaxial tensile force, a surface of stress element in direction of tensile force only subject to normal stress and the shear stress is equal to zero. would you explain why shear stress doesn't exist in this case ?
