Loki is a God. No further questions necessary. Matter of fact, in myth he’s also Saturn, in Norse it’s Sætere, who is the God of Time. Wednesday is Wodin’s/Odin day as he is sometimes called Woden, Thursday is Thors day, Friday is for Frigga, and Saturday is Sætere’s day, secretly Loki. Lokis the only God in myth that can be anything he wants and can CHANGE the kind of God he is. To me he represents the aspect of God that is boundless and has unlimited potential. He’s the most powerful but he chooses to play small games instead just because it entertains him far more. Can’t expect anything else from an all-powerful trickster.

That's a great theory and all, but as you can see in the clip, the Infinity Stones, including the time stone, are all powerless. They don't have their magnificent glow that they had outside of the TVA. Loki doesn't have any special abilities yet, so I believe anybody could hold that useless paperweight. But you're right about the foreshadowing because of all the stones to pick up, he chose the time stone

Could also be that since Loki was always the supposed to be the god at the end of time, the time stone is simply his magic, witch is why it has its green glow

He can touch time strands because he masters his own timestream from glitching, and asgardians become more powerful with age, and due to his control over time and thus ability to keep himself young, he ages near infinitely when approaching the loom, thus magnifying his abilities to nigh omnipotence
