What is the difference between Spotting and Period? – Spotting VS Period
Menstruation, or period, is normal vaginal bleeding that occurs as part of a woman's monthly cycle. Every month, your body prepares for pregnancy. If no pregnancy occurs, the uterus, or womb, sheds its lining. The menstrual blood is partly blood and partly tissue from inside the uterus. It passes out of the body through the vagina.
Spotting refers to very light vaginal bleeding or brown discharge that occurs mid-cycle between menstrual periods. Spotting is often harmless but can also be an indication of a problem that warrants attention by a healthcare professional for instance in cases of sexually transmitted infection (STI), or uterine fibroids (growths in the uterus). It can occur between periods, during pregnancy, after sex, or after a gynecological exam.
