Bro Amon has such a great potential he could have been one of the greatest antagonists in fiction but the writer made blast😕

Development is Noatak, he just developed in a wrong way, I wouldn't call Azula's lid finally hit off a development

In my opinion I think Amon is one of the best written villains in cartoon history

I love both seasons. Azula (imo) is the best villain, also very good in writing.

I hope there is Aang-Azula-Zuko trio in another universe.

Nice One 🔥
Both are undeniably well written and I’d argue that Amon should’ve been the Final Villan for Korra (also his death was underserved, bro was too strong)

Complexity = or even to Amon but it's open to interpretation and not fleshed enough so I can see if it's azula.

What about Zaheer? Also, Amon and Tarrlok's conclusion is one of the best I've seen.

Lukewarm take: Azula has the better backstory (developed more and it doesn't just come from a flashback)
Hot take: Amon is a significantly more interesting and threatening villain before the reveal that he's a bloodbender and Tarrlok's brother.

Rel but azula takes more but why?
Azula is better written than Amon due to the intricacy of her motivations, relationships, and psychological unraveling. Her character is not just about power it’s about her desperate need for validation from her father and her struggle to maintain control over everything in her life. This makes her drive deeply personal, as opposed to Amon’s broader ideological mission. From a young age, Azula is shown to be a prodigy, but her brilliance is intertwined with emotional scars from her family, particularly her manipulation by Ozai, which leads her to believe that love equals fear and dominance.

Her perfectionist nature and fear of failure are established early on, and her unraveling in the final season is foreshadowed by her deteriorating relationships with Mai and Ty Lee. When these two betray her, it becomes clear that Azula’s control over others is built on fear, not genuine loyalty, highlighting her isolation. This moment is pivotal because it shows how Azula’s inability to form true bonds leads to her downfall. The show spends time exploring her psychological fragility, particularly in episodes like “The Beach, ” where she reveals her discomfort with social norms and her struggle to relate to others on a human level.

Amon, by contrast, is written with a strong ideological foundation, but his personal motivations are less explored. While his backstory as Noatak is tragic, it serves more as a plot device to explain his anti bending crusade rather than a deep exploration of his psyche. Amon’s goal to equalize society is compelling, but his hypocrisy as a secret waterbender undermines some of the emotional weight behind his actions. Once his identity is revealed, he loses the mystery that made him intimidating, and his character arc concludes without the depth of personal exploration that Azula receives.

Azula’s breakdown during her coronation is one of the most well crafted moments in the series, as it shows how the pressure of perfection, her father’s rejection, and her loneliness all converge to destroy her mentally. This adds layers to her defeat, making it more than just a loss in combat it’s a collapse of her identity. Even in her final moments, she remains a tragic figure, not just a villain to be defeated. Amon, in comparison, is more of a symbol of resistance, and once his ideological battle ends, his character doesn’t evolve further.

In terms of narrative structure, Azula’s journey is more deeply intertwined with the core emotional themes of *Avatar: The Last Airbender*, particularly the dynamics of family, power, and isolation. Amon, while thematically important in *The Legend of Korra*, doesn’t receive the same depth of psychological exploration, making Azula the more fully realized and compelling character.
