Quick tip: How to Clean STICKY RUBBER

Sometimes, there's a coating of sticky rubber residue that forms on plastic surfaces. So here's a quick fix to clean that sticky rubber.

Worked for me too, with 70% IPA. 👍🏻 The trick is that after a few rounds of vigorous rubbing with a cloth, the surface has to be allowed to dry - and that's when the stickiness is gone.

This is excellent advice; a step further is Denatured Alcohol, also Eucalyptus oil as found by me in Asian markets works very well for rubberized plastic when you just want to rub all that goo off for good and works for sticker goo removal too.

This made it way more sticky for me. Maybe it works on specific kinds of rubberized plastics but not on the type I have.

Sheesh! Who knew?? I've thrown things out with this problem. Tried baby powder on sticky rubber stuff..didn't really work all that well. This was a great fix for the sticky rubber part on my Rabbit corkscrew. Cheers!

I had a couple of items that were sticky. On one I tried 70% rubbing alcohol. It worked. Remembered that I have a can of denatured fuel alcohol. That worked even better.

For those who find IPA or rubbing alcohol, slow going, that's because it contains a high percentage of water. Denatured alcohol is more effective because it's as close to pure alcohol as it's possible to get (95% pure is about the limit), with a methyl additive that makes it poisonous to drink and bad to breathe. MY TIP: if you live in or near one of the states where liquor stores are allowed to sell it, 190 proof grain spirits (Everclear 190 or one of the cheaper knockoff brands) is a fantastic alternative to denatured alcohol. I've been using it for years in my art studio and for shellac refinishing. The only downside is that I have to drive to Wisconsin to get it.

Like how concise the video is but have only tried used Spirits on plastic e.g umbrella handles & remote backs .Which is affective; quick but can damage your goods being overly aggressive on your plastic. As did not have Isopropyl Alcohol on hand to tryout.

Hand sanitiser (65% ethanol) had partial effect. Surgical spirit much better (found an old bottle in back of cupboard, at least 30yrs old!). May need to keep rubbing it in for a few minutes. Worked better on one item than another. Let it dry off first. Great vid, thanks.

Tried this on my old jacket's zipper. Worked like a charm! Used hand sanitizer, although I believe it was the plastic coating on my zipper that turned sticky and not rubber.
