How does Workers Comp Insurance Work?

Workers' compensation insurance is required for most employers in most states. There are some exceptions to that rule, but for the most part, if you have employees you must have workers comp.

You may be asking - “How does it work?” Meaning I know I get a policy, but what happens after that? Good question and I’m going to answer it for you.

Hi, I’m Gordon Coyle, and welcome to my channel where I talk about business insurance and risk issues on the minds of business owners and entrepreneurs like you. In this video, I’ll explain how workers' compensation insurance works.

Have other questions not been answered here? I love helping business owners gain greater control over their risks and insurance programs.

Or you can call or email me!

I fell at work because someone left a flat in the walkway and have been in physical therapy for more than 6 months. My employer cut my hours from 32 to 24 and 16 hours per week. No one talked to me after the fall to give me any information on what to do. I’ve missed work due to the injury and I’m almost at my limit for occurrences. I waited 3 weeks to see a doctor hoping the swelling would go down but it didn’t. I finally told the assistant manager I was going to get checked out. What can I do to keep my job and be paid for days I missed? Also is it legal for them to cut my hours so drastically?

I got hurt on the job a little over a week ago, hurt my back. Couldn’t walk for two days (I got hurt on Friday. The pain was excruciating until Monday) I went into work that Monday morning and the whole week and have been working with the pain, can I still talk to my employer about the comp or is it to late ? To be more clear today (Sunday) is 9 days after my incident and I have not told any one of my managers ( even though they can visibly see me walking with limp and the fact that I can’t really bend at the waist)
