Yesterday news broke that Microsoft was moving to layoff employees all across the company, but no one was expecting the number of layoffs to be so high. Xbox game studios were also affected with one in particular getting hit hard. Ubisoft has been having a rough week with employees now calling out the CEO over recent comments.

When the 3DS stumbled out the gate resulting in a very quick price drop and the Wii U underperformed in sales, the late Satoru Iwata didn't pass the blame onto Nintendo employees but instead took the blame as well as took a pay cut. Perhaps in an effort to cut cost and raise morale, Yves Guillemot should retract his "ball is in your court" statement and take responsibility for his leadership as well as cut Ubisoft's cost akin to Iwata-san.

People always seem to ignore the "Company A's CEO makes $55 million a year" part of layoffs, firing a few thousand people that in total, probably make about the same as JUST the CEO before all of the bonuses they get, and then people saying "Well they had to cut those jobs" while the company makes about $80 billion net profits that year, obviously if they don't let go those workers they'd ONLY make $79.95 BILLION so they can't POSSIBLY afford to keep paying them. Infinite growth is all these companies care about, which is of course, impossible, no matter how many costs they cut, they'll eventually earn %0.0001 less than last year, then %0.0002, and so on, and investors, the only people these corporations care about, will freak out and sell.

Been working at MS for years off and on, and I’ve gotta say, the number is way higher due to the volume of contractors. Didn’t realize until this video that the reason coworkers had their last day on assignment yesterday was because of this round of layoffs. So expect the impact to be far greater, as many areas are left with skeleton crews.

Whoever the ubisoft employee was that said why they are chasing trends and not setting them might be one of the biggest mic drop moment in the industry.

I generally understand the need to do layoffs every now and then, even big ones from time to time, but it's a bit ridiculous considering that Microsoft is buying Activision for $68 Billion.

Did you talk about blizzard getting kicked out of China honestly so much karma for them that’s what they get for trying to please them and rejecting they home country

It’s crazy that all those people lost their jobs. I think the only company to not do that is Nintendo. The higher staff actually decided to take pay cuts instead of laying people off.

I saw a tweet from Bluepoint expressing their disappointment but letting people know they are hiring. Hopefully there are some good opportunities out there for the devs who lost their job.

So what happens if Microsoft acquires Activision Blizzard? Are they gonna lay-off half their staff as well?

Microsoft had its first group at Zenimax unionized on January 3 and suddenly the company trims 5 percent of the workforce to stop the movement. It looks bad when they are trying to buy another studio and they still have massive profits to cut workforce but they are more scared of unions than losing a merger or quality employees.

These companies can be screwed in the head sometimes.

They're laying off people because they're supposedly losing $, yet they don't mind spending $67 billion on a video game.

Youtube randomly just suggested the 4/16/2020 issue of Newswave and it is amazing how much more polished the show is today.

343 needed some cuts, if they had that many employees and halo infinite was delayed that many times, and STILL came out like THAT, they probably needed to trim the fat a long time ago

Dokapon Kingdom was a great game. It came out for PS2 and Wii but it's rare and expensive. A re release for Switch would be fantastic. I just hope they can make a few minor changes. I had an issue where my brother and I played the very long story mode. We stopped half way through. When we came back to it weeks later we couldn't remember what we were supposed to do next and the game doesn't have any kind of summary of the current situation.

It's never good whenever any layoffs happen no matter what line of work it is and to see that Microsoft and other companies have been letting go of thousands of staff particularly at a time where there is an ongoing cost of living crisis is just sad. I feel for the people whose livelihoods and families will be directly impacted as a result of this.

I sure wish they would port to, or make a sequel for fantasy life on the switch. I loved the different class system, with simple but fun combat and skills you could peranently learn (they could even improve combat), the different zones to explore, monsters to kill, crafting components to gather, and animal crossing like home/room custization like options. I liked the ability to craft my armor, or furniture, or w/e i wanted!

I don’t understand how A LOT of Sega games are still stuck on the Dreamcast and GameCube. Like they REALLY are afraid to go beyond revisiting the 16-bit era

Anyone who enjoyed Elden Ring really should give Dragon's Dogma a chance. It is a really terrific game and has its own very unique gameplay.

At less than $5 it is a complete steal. There's hundreds of hours of gameplay in there. Get it! Enjoy it! The sequel is being worked on as well.
