The problem is, all artists are tied up in contracts with music companies. These companies are in further contracts with music providers like Spotify and Apple Music, etc. so the artists get only a fraction of what they used to get as their share is divided into music companies as well as music providers. Therefore there is very less incentive and motivation in making innovative music. This is the main problem why artists are not making great songs.

Old era: music they used to make, became popular.
Today's era: whatever is popular, becomes music.

Even "nirma ad song" has better lyrics than today's songs

I miss the era of Falguni Pathak, Lucky Ali, Silk Route, Euphoria, Aryans, Bombay Rockers and Vikings, and lastly A Band of Boys!✨💜

Old times ADS has more vibrant lyrics than today's songs.

Beein a 2000s kid, falguni pathak's songs was and still is just peace, I mostly jammed on shreya ghoshal, sunidhi chauhan and shaan songs, even have CDs of playlists!! Remember watching 9xm, MTV and waking up in the morning and watching these channels!!

I think it is safe to say that the singers, composers and lyricist of original kanta laga jumped off a cliff after listening to the new version!!

The period where kk and mohit chauhan were ruling the music industry (2006-2012) will always be special to me. These two really made my childhood special with songs like Dil Kyu Yeh Mera, Tu Hi Meri Shab Hai, Jo Bhi Main, Tum Se Hi and many more

The fact that we got Shershaa's album in 2021 feels surreal. Never imagined we will get those beautiful songs in 2021 .

When our parents tells us “Music was great at their time” apparently there’s some truth to it.
A group of researchers ran 500k samples of modern music and found out that the music that we are getting right now has much less composition complexities, and follows the same sequences of notes in almost all of songs.
Most significantly the harmonic complexity, Timbral diversity and loudness.
On a side note I feel these days music is not seen as personal expression of an artist and a medium of story telling but rather a means to put yourself out there to get attention of millions.

I'm not even 18 yet and I can relate to this video so bad.

I used to wake up an hour or so before school just to listen to 9XM's morning playlist and always used to end up having a karaoke in the middle of our living room.

I'm a South Indian so this was the channel that introduced me to music outside of Telugu. I jammed to all the artists you mentioned but I never knew their names back when I was doing so.

It just feels so nostalgic.

Also Sonu Nigam for his soulful songs, deewane hoke hum, tera milna.... Really that era was the golden era for indie rock

Just as Ekta Kapoor ruined Indian television, the so-called artistes like Tony Kakkar, Neha Kakkar, etc are ruining the music scene.

You know that you're getting old when you start to talk about 'Hamaare zamaane ke gaane'.
Damn, I haven't finished class 12 and I feel that 😂

As a 90s kid, I am really fortunate to have witnessed the era of legends like Aaryans, Colonial Cousins, Lucky Ali, Band of Boys, VIVA, Silk Route, Euphoria, Bombay Vikings, Indian Ocean, etc.

I have stopped listening to music for sometime. Songs without music has no heart and without lyrics has no soul.

There are still indie artists like taba chake, anuv Jain etc who have singles that touch your souls. I'm glad and sad at the same time that they haven't blown up like Tony Kakkar or something.

Another problem is, whenever any good song comes up, no reviewer talks about them openly for appraisal! But everyone makes roast, reaction n reviews of cringe items for their own publicity! Hence, good items remain hidden and the worst items are established as references!

Why to blame musicians?
The amount of like on new kaanta Laga says volumes about music taste of current generation

Being born in '86... I feel so privileged and lucky to have lived my life through the 90's...which was the actual life...there were songs for every occasions, and we lived our life to the fullest even without smart phones... We didn't have any Facebook, mobile phone or Whatsapp, friendships were for real, love meant to see our crush secretly, giving love letters, respecting one's decision and their thoughts... the craze for freshly released cassettes... The recording of songs in old cassettes, side A side B... Gifting them to how I miss the voices of Lucky Ali, Euphoria, Silk Route, Alisha, DJ Aqeel, colonial cousins, Sunita Rao, .... Even now at times when I listen to these songs, I relive those moments again, it is truly magical. Even English pop for that matter, ... Final countdown, BonJovi, Michael Jackson, ... I remember my friend going crazy at MJ's album cover on the Cassette... ❤️
