Beret DIY Tutorial: How to Sew a BEAUTIFUL Fashion Hat

The perfect hat for spring and fall is a cosy fleece beret. I show you how to make two of them this week, one in this video and one in a short released earlier in the week with these sewing lessons. Link for the short is for the dinner plate and bowl beret is at the end of this video and at the end of this description below. Sewing a fabulous fall beret is fun and easy. If you live in a cool climate for part of the year, it is a wardrobe accessory you will love! Sewing a warm hat is a wonderful project and a great gift for family, friends or your sewing business.

I recommend using polar fleece for this pattern as it is stretchy, does not need the seam edges finished and gives you great results every time. Other fabrics can be used but should be cut on the bias. If using a wool for the top, repeat the top panels in lining fabrics and line for comfort.

The fabulous fall boho beret has an eight panel top that gives the hat the slightly baggy fit and beret circular shape. The panel pattern piece is available as a free sewing piece download on our website that will be delivered to your email inbox. Choose the size of printer paper you use before adding to the cart. Pause the Video at 5.01 to transcribe the measurements for the two band pieces and the elastic.

The hat also requires a small length of 1 inch or 2.5 cm wide elastic two part band and the measurements for that are in the video. Size in the video is Medium which is average woman's head size of 22.5 inches or 57.5 cm circumference. A mini pattern for a very nominal fee will be available for purchase in the near future. This pattern will be graded in three sizes (S, M and L) and also explore how to make the beret in other fabrics and trimming ideas.

If not using fleece, I assume you're also cutting the band on the bias, even though the video pieces don't indicate that.
