The key part that you forgot to mention is the bite has to be created on the working end of the line. If you pick the other side, it will be a slip knot and it won’t work. That’s a key element to this truckers hitch working correctly.

Someone taught (no pun intended) me this knot 30 years ago to tie a canoe to my vehicle and I still love it today. Fantastic knot to secure things.

Run the working end through the loop twice to create a lock so you can tie off without pinching it.

I twist the overhand slip 2-3 times before passing the bight through it, so it's less likely to jam. Once you have the trucker's hitch pulled tight, tie the running end in a tautline hitch around the standing end, with a bight to make a ripcord as the last part of the tautline hitch. You can pull the trucker's hitch a little tighter as needed, and just slide the tautline hitch down the standing end a little more to secure it again. It also lets you break down the whole assembly quickly - pull the ripcord out of the tautline hitch and it collapses, freeing the running end to release the tension on the truckers hitch).

A person, I bowl with, was just asking me how to do this. Keep up the videos

Likely the easiest method for cinching. The trick is tying off under tension using one hand (one doesn't use 550 cord to tie off loads).

I use this knot all the time. I tie the bight with a figure 8 knot, it doesn't jam like the overhand can and so is easier to untie.

No real Truckers (in the day of using ropes to tie down truck loads) would ever use the overhand slip in the Trucker's Hitch - because when tightened down properly, it doesn't SLIP back out - instead they would use a cow or girth hitch with a bite or some other thing that doesn't bind under load, so it would pull apart EASY.

You loose half the tension when you throw that half hitch in... I explore other options to secure the tension

If you can't do a trucker's hitch with one hand when you're not doing it right. And I say one hand I mean literally with one hand tied behind your back and you lock down the whole load without touching anything on the load with your unused hand.

* It would of been helpful if you would of shown how to tie it off.

Many many many many truckers disagree with you.

*A SLIP KNOT USED FOR A TRUCKERS HITCH IS NOT A TRUCKERS HITCH*

What a coincidence. I just pinched one off.
