Bill that lets Oregonians pump their own gas passes in state Senate

The self-service gas bill, which will not eliminate gas station attendants, now goes to Gov. Tina Kotek for a signature.

They started letting people pump their own gas in Texas back in the '80's saying the same things as this article. At first it started like they say with full service and self service but now full service gas stations are almost impossible to find; only self-service and if it is full service, they charge more.

I've worked as a gas station attendant, as much as I hated that job I always saw that it was an industry that provides a ton of jobs and when it's gone it'll be that much harder for people to find work.

Of course, gas station owners will be busy eliminating attendants as fast as they can despite the rosy intentions of this new law...

Fun fact; in states where people pump gas they steal it & cause accidental spills sometimes with fire, not that there isn't anything wrong with it of course, yikes!.

It's true some gas attendants will lose their job. But it will make it much easier for carjackers so that helps their business!

I remember when there was a run on gas and people were trying to fill up shopping bags and plastic tote tubs. Someone is gonna try and recreate the gas fight from Zoolander, ya'll know its gonna happen.

I've been pumping my own gas ever since 1983 when I made the mistake of filling my tank with diesel fuel. It took several days to try to clean it out but my car was never the same.

Coming from neither Oregon nor New Jersey, hearing them talk about wether or not the state will allow people to pump their own gas, and hearing people say they don’t know how to pump gas has got to be one of the funniest damn things I’ve ever heard!

This holds to aircraft too. Most attendants don’t know most aircraft, the pilot usually knows his own plane better. It’s about time this is allowed!
