The sheer amazement at finishing the elite 4 and then finding I could run through Kanto as well remains the biggest gaming twist ive experienced

you can actually find a wild Parasect in Mt. Silver if you go into the “second cave room” up the waterfall and then into another “cave room” there are level 50’s wild parasect you can catch or shiny hunt

that GS intro is just more proof that Johto Pokemon were viewed mostly as bonus Pokemon and secondary to the original 151.

Explains why so few Johto gym leaders even use native Pokemon and why so many in game landmarks are tributes to Kanto Pokemon (Slowpoke Well, Sprout Tower etc).

I think gamefreak was going with the discovery angle; that these new mons were just being newly discovered, partially by the player themselves.

Pokemon Silver is still my most beloved Pokemon game, and Lugia is still my favorite legendary. I remember my grandpa told my elementary school that I had a dentist appointment so we could leave early and go to Pokemon 2000, because I REALLY wanted to get one of the limited Ancient Mew cards. I still have it!

I remember first having Pokemon Yellow and getting Pokemon Gold when that released followed by Crystal. I’m still playing these as an adult because of how much I love these games and how it’s a nice escape from reality. I really love your channel and hearing what you have to say.

As a kid, I absolutely hated Togepi in the cartoon for being a cutesy baby who was only there to get rescued. I was pretty dumb so playing Silver for the first time, I honestly thought the egg you have to take along would hatch into a Pichu and man, that experience taught me a lot about life.

Man, looking back at the boxart and back made me shed a tear. I'll always remember when my mother bought me a lime green Gameboy Color and with it both Pokémon Gold & Crystal for having good grades in school. Those were the happiest moments of my life as a kid, reading the manuals "despite not knowing anything of English back then" although the drawings of the characters was what truly caught my attention over and over was such a treat for my young mind.

I thought you could only find a Paras in France, I'm not great with geography though

I remember when this was out in Japan and Pojo Magazine was doing a monthly diary style article on GS. It was so interesting. Eggs, a phone, the new Pokémon and a different colored Gyarados. I couldn't wait. I got Silver and a gameboy color for Christmas and played it so much!

IAh, the Gen 2 games. Funny story, Silver was the first pokemon game I ever bought, but I have played Pokemon Blue before that. How is that possible? I promised a kid on the bus I rode the day before I was to stop riding the bus that I would trade him a rare pokemon card for it. So, he gave we the game and I never saw him again. Until 9 years later when we were passing each other in the local groceries. He looked at me and said plainly, "you still owe me that rare card." I burst out laughing and agreed. We've been friends ever since.

My favorite generation. Gold, Silver and Crystal can’t beat any other iteration of this game

Man, you talking about the pre release gets me real nostalgic. Not about these games, but about how marketing used to be handled. Nowadays it's just sponsorships and aggressive Internet ads...

Silver was my first Pokemon game, my Parents got me a GBC back when I was 5 and the old owner forgot the silver edition in it. At this point I kinda heared of pokemon being a very good gameboy game, so I was happy, it still took a few months until I was able to really play it, but since then Ive been a Pokemon fan.
Also while I agree that 2nd gen is a great place to explore even today, I would always go for the crystal version and not only bc Suicune is one of my fav mons
