This was a really comprehensive video describing what IT managers do and the landscape they work in.

I'm glad you have mentioned how IT Managers need to be all up to date with the latest technology. This is something we've seen really pick up pace over the last few years as a change in IT networks (moving to Cloud etc) really introduces a lot more potential technology to a business. So it's not just understanding the network, it's also understanding what a change in the network will enable you to do after that. Certainly, the 'silo' mentality is now coming under more and more pressure. Cheers.

I’m going in for IT Management and then going into coding boot camp after that so I’ll have a broader base of knowledge with a bit of programming to start with. I considered computer science but that is mostly coding.

I’m currently a IT Manager for a non-profit Heath facility. I started as helpdesk there I worked closely to the IT VP and picked up a lot over the years. It’s a SMB. So I went from Helpdesk to Managing all of the helpdesk myself for a few years, I worked on some certs to help educate myself on areas I was week. I’m very self motivated and type A. Answering the phone got me used to dealings with vendors. I then moved into a Systems Manager role and Documented so many things and managed the new helpdesk staff. Then moved into the IT Manager role where over 10yrs there and everything I learned “Jack of All Trades” came together and do basically Everything he mentions in this video. If you naturally are a leader and are organized and meticulous person but also enjoy IT. You are probably prefect for this role.
