Huge circular sinkhole opens up in Chile

A giant, perfectly circular 32-meter (104 ft) sinkhole has opened up in Chile's northern mining region.

The hole appeared on Saturday near the Alcaparrosa copper mine in Tierra Amarilla, Copiapó province.

One member of the Tierra Amarilla community told Chilean TV the incident confounded their fears about the site, which is owned by the Candelaria mining company.

A health center and a number of homes are located a mere 600 meters (2,000 feet) from the rim of the hole.

Candelaria's administrative director Karina Briño said the company had "no idea" what had caused the sinkhole to open.

The interim director for Chile's National Geological and Mining Service, David Montenegro, said his offices would look in to the matter to provide residents with some answers and reassurance.

Do sinkholes make near perfect circles? And look at the inside, see the lines on the rock? I'm no expert but that looks like a borehole.

i saw the buildings close by and thought it could be due some pipe leakage over long time, but then they mentioned a mine.
Sinkholes are almost always man-made, the sediments comprising the hole might have been washed out throughout the mine, and considering how dry it is there the water could have come from the settlement waste

A circular hole typically forms and grows over a period of minutes to hours. Slumping of the sediments along the sides of the sinkhole may take approximately a day’s time to stop. Erosion of the edge of the sinkhole may continue for several days, and heavy rainfall can prolong the stabilization. In the less catastrophic cover subsidence type of sinkhole, sediments slowly settle into underground voids in the bedrock. A bowl-shaped depression forms at the surface, typically over longer periods of time (sometimes as long as years)."

Real life “OPEN RANGE” And by the way sinkholes are not perfect circles it does look more like a bore hole like someone drilled it or with laser-precision, cut it out. But, who could of done it, the aliens possibly who knows

Bit too perfect to be natural. The sides look like it's been bored out by something. You never hear about investigating what's at the bottom of it.
