Try with the rug upside down so it's correctly oriented from the dog's perspectives rather than the camera perspective.

This does not work. The hole is a perspective trick. Only looks like a hole from the viewers perspective. Not the dogs. The dogs just see a weird rug they haven't seen before.

Surely the illusion would not work from the other direction? It only works perfectly from the angle the camera is at.
