My husband was laid off and out of work for 3 years. I worked a full-time job and 2 consulting gigs to pay our bills. It taught me to never have expenses that will exceed a single income. Hubby and I have been consumer-debt free since 2008 and it's really nice. We track our expenses which shows us exactly how much we spend and set limits for food/eating out/booze and have a goal to put 25-30% into a high-yield savings. We are trying to buy our first place and we are in our mid 50's.

"any DUDE with Louis Vuitton..." I died laughing out loud. I know way too many of these. Forking over several hundred for just a belt or a tiny card wallet. Good advice Brian!

This video, and this channel should be required viewing for every 18 year old in the country. Then again when they are about to graduate from college.

I only recently realized how important it is to track your Made a budget for myself and figured I could just "play it by ear" for the first year or so. A few months ago I took a look at my cc statements from last year and found I was spending over $500 per month in unnecessary purchases. You might think I'm just dumb for not realizing how much I was overspending but those $20-$50 purchases really can add up without you ever realizing. Especially if your budget is aimed toward living below your means

OMG this was the most important gesture of public service that I have seen in a very long time. Brian, thank you for sharing a lesson that could keep people from falling through the gap/cracks when they unexpectedly lose their job or when they retire. I did those things but only after taking classes at my job. This advice is worth its weight in gold. Thank you

I won a $12, 995 jackpot and blew it all. Having money didn't make me really any happier, but it was exciting.

The best thing is to stay poor. In other words, live in a very affordable home, drive a used car for 20 years, cut your own hair, never go out to eat, buy all your food at the grocery, pay off all debt, live in a low-tax area....basically live like you have amin wage income.

Sometimes, its not your fault, they just tax the hell out of your pay check ! And then tax you when purchasing using the money that has already been taxed!
