THE GERMAN HIKING SEASON HAS STARTED WITH A FAIL

⤹Everything you want to know is here!⤵︎

My "German" hiking season has started... technically in Austria but that is besides the point... The season has officially started for me and it was a big fail. I have been spending a lot of my time behind the scenes concentrating on things other than fitness and being active. I told myself once I got back to Germany (and as soon as the weather allowed) I would go hiking again because even though I complain the whole time- it is a very good workout and there is something very therapeutic about being on top of a mountain with no one around.

We technically made it to the first cross but we still had to turn around!

How old are you?
As old as the days are long

Where are you from?
Florida

Where do you live?
Germany

love yall

Mit Mike ist es immer witzig. Man merkt, dass der Humor zwischen beiden gut funktioniert.

That "bad camera angle" was actually perfect! The little flower looked like a little microphone you were talking into haha :) Also, I totally agree about Germans being built different for these hikes. I (a healthy 25 y/o American) went on an "easy" hike with my German date at the time, and we literally had to stop every 10 minutes so I can catch my breath.

After months of "Ruhe" you should start with a small Hügel not a Mountain 😀
That is brave from both of you. And you gonna have loads of "Muskelkater" the next days - after being Spagetti in the evening.
But you know what? Its motivating to a hiking again 😅

Your hiking videos are my favourite! Mike filming you from a distance with you rambling on barely audible about your leggings cracked me up so much. 😂😂

Mein Schatzi hat mich mal auf die Brecherspitze (Schliersee) gelotst. Der Name war Programm!😆Aber landschaftlich auch absolut zu empfehlen.

No way Hayley! When I hiked the Rockies in Colorado for a season the local old people made it look easy. 😭 They don’t even use the shoe spikes for ice.

I like your German.
I am hiking too, because it makes you feel good, but you have to learn it. First it is heavy and you feel like as if your end is near, but if you are doing it for a while then this is not a problem any more. You feel enhanced and more powerful every time.

I have here a nice 6km way to my neighbour village, so I am walking 12km and I do this every time if possible. Sometimes every second day and I need 2-3 hour, depends on what else I do. But my area here is totally flat, the highest mountain in my area is around 20 meters high and it is a landmark.

6:19 The red and white on that rock obviously means that you got horribly lost and are crossing the border to Poland.

Hey Hayley,

There are other beautiful regions in Germany, having smaller mountains.

I would recommand the "Pfälzer Wald" for starters. Smaller Mountains and a lot of "Waldhütten" with "Schorle".
(It's a wine region, so our go to drink is white wine spritzer in 0, 5 Liter glasses, called "Schobbe").

If you and Mike ever consider vacation all around Germany and you descide to vistit Palatina (Rheinland-Pfalz), I would be honored to be your "Wanderführer". 😊

Oh the inner thigh of leggings always wears away/tears on me too. I’ve found that sewing a patch of similar material works much better than sewing the tear shut. I make the “patch” from an older pair of pants that I no longer wear. The patch puts more material there to fill the space & less pull in the area. It still eventually wears away at the seams where I sew the patch, but not half as quickly as if you were to sew the sides of the tear shut.

That seemed to be a nice area. What a pity that you had such a bad experience there.
From my parents and my grandparents I've learned to start slowly with mountain hikes, ie. I'd start with a tour of 1 to 2 hours (one way; double that for up and down). Starting with a 3 - 4 hour tour would probably spoil my mountain hiking season. After a couple of short walks I'd start going for more challenging or longer routes.
For all mountain hikes the most important thing is water, always enough water. An apple or two. Chocolate. That should be enough for a short tour, particularly if the end point is a Berghütte (alpine hut) or an Alpe (alpine farm house in the mountains).
Your shoes were looking really good !
Concerning clothes I'm quite conservative: I'm not exactly convinced of all those modern materials. I prefer loose, very comfortable trousers and shirts made of cotton. Certainly I wouldn't wear tight sitting clothes of a kind like eg. leggins.
