The FINAL WWII Soldier to Surrender EVER #shorts
Показать описание
This name was Teruo Nakamura, the final/last Japanese Imperial soldier to surrender ever. Born in Taiwan, Nakamura was not a native Japanese but volunteered for the Japanese army when Taiwan was a colony of Japan. During World War II, he was assigned to Morotai Island, Indonesia, where the Allies quickly defeated the Japanese. Nakamura retreated and survived on the island until 1974. After he was discovered by an Indonesian pilot, he was returned to Taiwan to attempt to reunite with his family. However, his parents were long gone, and his wife had remarried. Unlike the other last two Japanese soldiers to surrender, Hiroo Onoda and Shoichi Yokoi, it was argued that Nakamura was technically not a Japanese citizen, Because of this, the Japanese government refused to give him any benefits for his service. In the following years, Nakamura lived peacefully until his death in 1979.
