Unifi Gateway Max : UXG Max

The Unifi Gateway max is a Unifi gateway capable of 2.5Gbps routing. It features 1x 2.5Gbps WAN and 4x 2.5Gbps LAN where one is remappable. The Unifi gateway max ( UXG Max) does not have a built in controller so you will need to use a hosted solution, cloud key gen 2 or have a local Unifi network instance running

I’ve had this thing for a month… it absolutely rips.
Only downsides IMO are no shadow mode, and no option for redundant power supplies.
But honestly, that’s not needed for residential use, and it’s absolutely perfect in my setup

This little boy just sits in my rack being ready to switch over replacing my UXG Lite. I will do so tomorrow as I have a day off. I am using a self hosted network controller and defined a 2nd site where the UXG Max has been adopted to. Will remove the UXG Lite from my main site and move the UXG Max then over.
That's the plan. Hope that works better than my switch from the USG 3P to the UXG Lite which was a pain (due to my own stupidity I would say). Great videos Cody 👍

I have a ftizbox at home right now with incoming vlan6 for internet and vlan4 for iptv. Does the Unify device support multicast routing? Will I need any extra configurations to get iptv working over the same line that brings internet to my living room? Or will it just be plug and play and work straight out of the box for my internal network? My wife will do bad things to me if the TV stops working after upgrading :)

For $40 a month for Unifi Network hosting, you could run your own baller Droplet server on Digital Ocean, which supports more than 100 devices and multiple networks. It's nice to see a refresh of the USG line.

It needs just 1 or 2 POE ports and it would be perfect. Then you could power an Ultra switch or direct to an AP.

Please do a comparison. Cost aside, is it worth it to have a separate Gateway Max or Gateway Pro over a UDM? Do you get any more security features in a dedicated gateway?

I am relatively new to unifi.. Although I do have the 10gbit switch from the. Will this UXG max serve as a full firewall / router? To replace, say a pfsense/opensense box? Does it allow for full custom firewall rule definition and the likes?

I also really wish that this had a couple of poe ports. I just got a couple of U7 Pro access points in February and have been happy with them so I've been looking to complement them with a new firewall/router. Just not sure which would be better...this or the cloud gateway ultra...

Can you use say a pc for the controller? or do you need either another controller? either hosted with unifi or elsewhere

Wow you really have to be careful about checking the feature set when choosing through the myriad of Ubiquiti offerings now. Any reason why I couldn't add a UXG Max to my UDR network? Could the UXG Max could handle my 1Gb x 1Gb fibre connection and IDS/IPS routing with 2.5G networking etc and use the UDR as controller and still use the on board PoE and Protect app? Not sure if we can split duties like that!
