It's funny that this is now the standard 3 years later.

My favorite part of this video was James May's monologue at the end.

...no, that wasn't interesting or insightful. Big whoop, wanna fight about it?

No taking into account of viewing distance?

There are out there mobile phones with 4k displays. Why would you compare the tv with iphone?

Liked the quality and how this video was made. Great job!

It's called 4K because it's roughly four times the total number of pixels in standard high definition (720p), not because there are nearly four thousand horizontal pixels.

True 4K is actually 4096 pixels wide, but they wanted to keep TVs at 16:9 aspect ratio since native 4K is 1.90:1

Finally!! Good to see someone else one who actually understands pixel density vs resolution vs viewing distance. Tired of reviewers boshing out ’pixel density’ as the only measure of quality. The iPhone screen may be over 300ppi but it still can’t display full 720p.

The end bit about the phones was the best part.

What blows my mind is projectors, LCD projectors have mini LCDs inside them which the beam of light is projected through and then through a lens onto your screen, these LCDs are often just a few inches across, yet we can cram 4k resolution on to them which results in pixel density on the LCD screen itself of much higher than even an iphone.

Obviously on the screen when you visually see it the pixel density depends on the size of the screen you throw so it can be remarkable low if you throw a screen that's say 100"+ (I throw 125")
