You might be able to just run the rectifier right off of the power output going to the lights from the yellow wire that comes out of the magneto. If you hook your rectifier straight up to that yellow wire coming out of the magneto. That yellow wire goes to your headlights. So in my mind I think that all of the headlights and taillights would run on DC. I tried it on mine and my system ran on DC however my balb blew out because it was too much current going to it because I was using the wrong bulb.

They make a dodad that blinks the headlight for higher visibility making you more visible to other drivers.  Yours is cheaper, but I do wonder about longevity.

Sorry I put you through all that, Russ!  :)   Experience has taught me to ALWAYS insulate ANYTHING automotive with 1 foot of duck tape. =Does the job and if it were to carbonize, the resistor pack will be wrapped in an inert enclosure.

=Too much world and not enough duck tape...   :)   Cheers!

Having had plenty of experience wiring motorcycles, and especially with the switch-pots on handlebars etc, the answer was OBVIOUS as soon as you mentioned it - even before you mentioned there being a problem, as soon as you mentioned two parallel rectifiers, I thought to myself "Why not just make the changes to the feed line INTO the handlebar switch?" As for the FAN? Bogus. Open up some duct holes in the housing, save that thing 'cause you're already gonna be concerned about amps consumed by your lighting system, you wanna save as much as you can for a good hot SPARK, right? Ancillary systems like that, heck - if you're gonna hook up a fan on one of these bikes for cooling while the bike's not moving? Put it over the HEAD, or better yet an oil-cooler. Don't recall whether the Hobbit has a good plumbing system that you can hook up a cooler loop to, but wtf - You'll wanna hook up one of them Chinese LIFAN 140cc motors, the CUB clone stuff - Or at the very least, a CT110 Honda And get some Aluminum RIMS on that thing, plus a bigger front DRUM hub, CB160 2LS something at least 140mm diameter, better yet 160mm, 180mm - even a 200mm 2LS such as a Suzuki Titan T500 front drum, which has got some nice cooling fins and can be cut down to a very narrow overall width. Fill in the speedo drive with a bushing and then you can get even narrower. The next part you'll dig - A hall-effect sensor to replace the OEM speedo's mechanical worm-gear drive. Just run an electronic speedo. Some really nice 16" rims, 2.15x16" & 2.50x16", from "Mike's XS" are rear rims for XS650 Yamaha, drilled for big 200mm diameter rear drums, 36-spoke. Ideal set-up. Of course, the Hobbit used something like 14" rims, right? Well, there are 14" rims out there for little mini-bike MX-ers, CRF70 or whatever. Not a dirt-bike guy, myself. But yeah, some of those replacement rims for the little rear kiddie-bike wheels. IIRC 1.85" are commonplace. Get that and either a 1.60" or 2.15", big one in the rear - I'd bet that would do wonders even with the original size tires. Check out my "KZ440LOL" build for my scooter tire motorcycle idea. Or my "CB900K0 Bol Bomber" - that's why I'm looking or a Hobbit headlight right now, is the fairing on the bigger bike's fairing!

It's your voltage regulator that controls the voltage not the battery.
