Just incase anyone else moving from Prem is trying to do this and losing their mind, when doing control shift method it seems to only work when moving clip on the same track so in video example above if he was to get a video on track 3 would need to drag left and right dont drag onto a different track and it works, hopefull others smarter than me and didn't waste 20mins trying to work this out.

Thanks Jens. I`m a final cut pro user for years now, switching to davinci. the very first problem I bumped into was this issue of clips overwriting on each other when I want to move them around. In Final Cut Pro, it automatically snaps the clip between other clips without overwriting when you change their position, but turns out you have to press shift and cmd teverytime I have to do this, which I honestly consider to be extra chore, because I used to do it with just moving around the clip and the FCP would just do the job. Anyway, thanks for the tutorial

Why does everyone say use period and coma to move clips? You are holding down the shift key. You are actually using the greater than and less than keys which clearly show the direction you are moving the clip. Its a much more intuitive way to think about what you are doing.

Great video! I'm trying to insert a new clip into my timeline using the dual window method above, but the clip inserts itself in the timeline at a point other than where I've placed the play head. Sometimes the clip will be placed at the beginning of the timeline or some place else in the timeline, but not where my playhead is. Any idea of why this is happening and how to fix the problem?
