I haven't used it on vocals, but I've used all your tips including a Pcomp on my Garageband drum tracks and it makes a big difference in how my drum mixes are coming through. Thanks for all the tips. Just wanna say I love your channel, I’ve been doing a lot of internet searching on tips for getting mixes & mastering right in GarageBand & just trying to make my tracks sound good & honestly a lot of when I would search lead me back to you so I subscribed to your channel & email list 😊 I even have downloaded some of the Plug Ins you have suggested & these and your tips have helped me incredibly on a song I am working on that was great - but that there were just a lot of things that the mix needed. I’ve understood a lot more on things that I knew existed but didn’t know how to use them to their potential on a track because of your channel & guides. That's a great trick. It's insane how much the vocals gain presence.
Usually what I would do is double the track and mix it in with minimal compression, because I didn't know any better. But I really like the effect you get with this method.

I used this technique on a leas guitar to also make it stand out in a dense mix.

Even tried it on the bass guitar….it was also pretty good to make it pop a little bit more

Thanks for your pure-hearted teaching where you almost hide nothing back! I have revisited this tutorial because I felt it's need: my friend has made a wonderful song and despite umpteen numbers of mixing and mastering versions, the vocals seem to be getting drowned by the music. Can't you just use the dry/wet on the compressor instead of having 2 tracks?

To my humble ears things like this often take away the realness of the voice. I prefer the vocals here by far without the extra compression. But a lot of the music today leaves me cold anyway so all this is my humble opinion. That said, as always, thanks for what you do for us. I have used so many of your tips to make my recordings stronger.

I do this a lot with reverb. What do you think of doing this with more than one heavily compressed track each with different compressor type, like for example 1176 and opto like LA-2A?
