Dr. Anthony Fauci and other top federal health officials testified to a Senate committee Monday about the setbacks likely to result if the U.S. reopens the economy too fast. Plus, House Democrats have proposed a new coronavirus relief package. CBS News's Gwen Baumgardner reports, and then political contributor Molly Hooper joins CBSN to talk about the latest reaction on Capitol Hill.

I just don't understand why politicians think they know more than doctors and scientists.

How about all of you stop getting a pay check until the general public does?

Open the country now! We can't afford to be shut down any longer. Folks, some smaller business will never recover and many bigger companies are hurting. This is crazy.

" If we open too fast than there may be more infections and death", "if we dont open we will starve to death and live on the streets" - those doomsday preepers are laughing at us..

If they keep things closed people are going to suffer more

Less than 0.5% of the us population has it. Hospitals are not over run. The curve is flattened. Meanwhile unemployment surges past 15%. Why are we still discussing if opening is the right thing to do?

Adding the words "too quickly" makes any statement true. I will die if I drive a car "too quickly". I will die if I hit the ground "too quickly". You will be broke if you spend money "too quickly". Does not mean I will die if I drive a car or jump off a cinderblock, or be broke if I by an extra can of soup.

Be afraid. Be very afraid. Fear is best, it will allow you to be controlled so much easier. Control. Fear. Pathetic. Be smart. Be safe. BE FREE!

Seems keeping things closed is working.
Why can’t people go to to pharmacy and get a test or mail in your test.

I think I'd rather hear from economist then doctors. I'm far more concerned about the entire economy concerning hundreds of millions of people then I am about a tiny fraction of the population that is susceptible to this bug. Not saying those few people shouldn't take care of themselves as they see fit just that it's stupid to grind the whole country to a haul and add trillions to the national debt.

Open your businesses, by using government safety guidelines (masks, gloves, limit # of ppl at a time and practice social distancing )..Protect yourselves, families, employees, and customers..Ppl will decide if they choose to go out or not..

They have issued so much money to the ppl and now there is talk of more money🤦🏾 I’m ready to get back to work but it’s looking very unlikely due to the fact tht I’m employed by a small buisness and they are looking quite bleak as in still closed even after being one of the first states to ease up restrictions as in I’m a resident of Georgia 🇬🇪 so just bc we have had to go ahead and open ppl are staying put as in 68% of America feels as if the virus is more important than the economy 🤷🏿‍♂️ I’m out of work because of natural disasters not due to negligence of my actions!! As soon as the government understand this factor we will forever be behind and lost in the shuffle🙏🏽
