I also have one of these testers and I like it a lot.
On the broken case, I think there is a lot of (deliberate) selling of factory-seconds from China.

Anyone know why they bring out the two pins going to crystal oscillator to the front of the board? I havent tried it yet but I imagine you would read the oscillator frequency at those points. But why would you need to? Just curious

Those meters only measure components at one frequency (1khz) just like the digital multimeter. That is why the capacitors measure at the low side. These electrolytic ones have to be measured at 120hz; and the capacity will increase...
