I don't understand why one would sand the pallet itself without disassembling it first?

You dont have to put that much pressure when using a powered one. It defeats the mechanical motion of the device.

Why would you wipe down the pallet with a damp cloth after sanding? doesn't it damage the wood? Beginner woodworker here just wondering, thanks.

Will an oscillating multi-tool and a random orbital sander be acceptable for this kind of work? That's what I have at the moment. Thanks for the video.
