Package after package from Amazon started showing up at Gordon Belnap's doorstep. But he didn't order them. He didn't want them. So, he fired up Google’s search engine to find Amazon's phone number and then called.

Why is anyone still banking with Wells Fargo

Unless they are the part of the scam, I don’t know why they don’t try to help the customer instead of a scammer

Why does it take calling the media/press to get such positive action?

Is anyone surprised it was Wells Fargo.

Chase did same thing to me...they refused to stop a pending fraudulent charge. I did get my money back - after filing a report, written statement and documentation - but the thief ALSO got away with stolen funds. Ridiculous.

He should have withdrawn every penny that day

Thank God this man got his retirement money back. The stress could have put his health in danger.

Things like this have made my wife and I change our bank from Wells Fargo to a local bank (here in Montana). I had a concern about a “pending payment” but could NOT reach a real human being to discuss it with. Instead, I got sent through loop after loop of automated menus that did NOTHING to address my concern. I did try to call the local Wells Fargo branch, but got the same loop of menus. The Wells Fargo site did have a mechanism to make an appointment with the local Wells Fargo branch, but I like 40 miles from it, and didn’t know if I really needed to go through all that effort. All I wanted was to talk with A PERSON about the situation! (It later turned out to be nothing.)

My bank called me one morning and asked me if I’d tried to do a money transfer. I said no and they cancelled it. I followed up with a local bank office and they verified with me and I found that they checked with me just moments after the attempt. I am SO happy to be banking with this company!

These damned banks need to be held accountable. Pending can be stopped.

Why is it that when the banks transfer money into your account by accident, they come after you for it but they can’t do anything when a scammer transfers your money to their account.

I wont even WORK for Wells Fargo again much less bank with them. As a former Temp Employee I can never trust that company again. I have seen WAY too may HORRIBLE practices. Like when I was in Mortgage and a woman that had 4 kids, 3 jobs and WF STILL Foreclosed on her house!! I was literally crying on the phone with her BC I had done EVERYTHING WF had told me to do to prevent exactly what happened.

I wonder what percent of the scammers are actually the banks themselves! How hard would it be for a bank to hire, through cut-outs, criminals to do the crime from an offshore location and then split the profits under the table?

Nooo, it's MORE amazing that when a news outlet gets involved, the "corporates" NOW do the right thing!

People have to STOP using their computers and cell phones to access their bank accounts, this is the number 1 way scammers take your money.

The banks treat the customer worse than the fraudsters. I hold the banks accountable for not watching out for their customers better. Especially the elderly. So wrong. And they are quick to take the money, but will not help you and how do they “determine” you allowed it as you are calling them telling them you did not authorize it. Such BS.

you can bet they were well aware he was scammed just listening to him talk, but was easy to ignore at his elderly age, no wonder they brushed him off, he needed one of his kids to go with him unless he doesn't have any, the family needs to take power of attorney on him
