Iman and Moazzam - While the 2 satellites lock in the the docking process, the individual speeds of both dont come down - they remain almost the same. For e.g. - even when the locking is happenning the speed of one satellite is 28000 kms per hour and the speed of other is say 28001 kms per hour - only 1 km per hour more. Only this will ensure the satellite with a higher speed will come near the one with lower speed eventually. And after they lock, they are one unit so the speed of both will be the same.

The speaker said the relative speed of one compared to the other is 1 kms per hour. I.e. 28001 minus 28000 kms per hour. Because the relative speed while moving in the same direction is the higher speed minus the lower speed.

satellite to stay in the orbit around the earth needs to orbit around the earth as some speed which is definitely in thousands or lakhs km/h . if satellites slow down to even 100km/h due to earths gravity it will go out of orbit and start falling towards earths atmosphere
