LMDE is based on Debian, Mint is based of Ubuntu which is based on Debian (highly modified) in simplier terms, its simplier to backport from the main source than from a fork of a fork. remember also that LMDE was suppose to be a backup of Mint just incase Ubuntu dies or becomes uncontrollable and being close to main source would help in transition better.

LMDE was backported when the final version of Mint 22 was released. I run both versions, LMDE on a Dell laptop and the main Mint 22 on my Desktop PC.

For those of us who program in Python, pip and gTTS does not work! But it will work in mint virginia.

I found the boot loader really glitchy in 21.3 and it got worse in 22. I haven't had any issue with lmde 6
