This man is working magic ... I'm going to get the resistor plug now I hope I really don't have to comment after this

You were absolutely right! I was a hair’s breadth from throwing this out after changing the plug that came with the carb kit. Your explanation made perfect sense since the plug I was using )non-resistor) got to hot to touch when it quit after a minute of running.
I put the plug in you spec’s and it’s perfect! I can’t thank you enough. I never would have thought to question the plug type.

Spent 2 days after installing a $15 rebuild kit which included a new no name brand of spark plug. Had this exact issue. Put the old plug back in and TA DA... works great now.. Tanks.

Solved this exact problem. Thank you for putting this great video together. I was ready to give up on this thing, but a $2.28 spark plug fixed the issue.

Thank you for this video! I literally was doing the same things you were. 14-15 hours of baffled, I did everything, and it turns out the new plugs that came with the rebuild kit was wrong. Threw in a old one from my stash of parts, and it immediately purred like a kitten. To think I almost threw out a 5 year old $300 trimmer over a few dollars.

Out of all the videos on here you are the guy who helped me figure mine out. I bought a kit from A-zon, changed the carb, fuel lines, filters and plug. All provided in the kit. I was about to give up when I saw your video. I dug the old plug out of the garbage and it ran fine. I was going crazy up to this point because I hate to say it but most guys posting videos just like to hear themselves talk. Thanks bud!

I had a lawnmower guy work on mine and it has this same issue ever since I got it back. I bet you that is why - thank you!

Thanks. New carb. 2 new coils. Fresh gas, etc. I even pulled the kill switch wires out of the handle, thinking they were shorting together. Carb kit came with a new plug....surely THAT can't be the problem. I just put the old resistor plug back in and

I'm glad i found this video! This past season took it to be adjusted she came back out & said the guy said he adjusted it. But it cut off with him, & if it keeps up, i would need a coil im like I've never had this problem & this is the first time ive I've used this shop because the old shop had basically shut down. So i take it home ise it & sure enough it would cut off but would fire right back up im like wayment this happened the same day they suppose to have adjusted it i was like they tryna get more money out of me so i found the adjustment tool ordered it. Now it's time to start the season so im searching the ole interweb lookinga adjustmentvideo & boom this video popped up i hope the plug situation fixes mine i really don't wanna mess with adjusting I've never done it! You would think the shops would catch it or where ever you buy your plug from fingers crossed thx in advance!

I wish I would have tried this from the start. Mine sat for a bit so I likely needed new fuel lines too, but I replaced the carb, plug (with a different model that came with the carb), and the muffler (thinking it was clogged). $2.68 later with the exact model RCJ8Y plug, and it runs perfect. The symptoms were a lumpy idle and then would only run for a few seconds at WOT.

I found this plug in my coffee can full of old plugs. This was the problem. Saved my bacon!
So what we are thinking is the other plugs are interfering with the coil? I tried some other plugs that are compatible with this RCJ8y resistor plug. None worked. Only this one.

Same problem. Put in the non-resister spark plug in and it wouldn't run for more than a few seconds. Put the old spark plug back in and it runs fine....

The manual says to use a QCJ8Y, any reason why someone would say otherwise?
