I didn't mention it in this video but of course the smoother the action the easier...You can take a new knife thats a bit stiff and take it apart and polish the pivot area to make it smoother out of the box but its easier for most people to just add oil to the pivot when new...

I was 68 years old when I first tried this and couldn't do it. I started exercising my fingers to strengthen them and after a couple months I mastered it. The Tenacious is the easiest to practice on but I can do this with all Spydercos even the stiff lock backs. Good video, Jeff.

Jeff, I’ve been watching your videos off and on for probably close to 8 years and still loving them. Keep it up! Thanks for what you do man.

I just now subscribed.
I was never a huge Spyderco fan but I bought a tenacious, then I was unexplainably pissed because I couldn't do the Spyderco flick. NOW, thanks to you I can, and don't need to spend hundreds of dollars on new Spydercos! 😆

Wow, I've been trying to figure this out on my own with my Manix 2 for a couple of days now. I watched your video and boom 2 tries in I'm nailing the Spyder flick consistently. Thanks!

You are very good at explaining it. I was sitting there 30 minutes trying to figure it out after watching a video. I did my first time. the way you grip it completely matters

I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes the thumb, it is just so much more universal across knives...

I just bought my first Spyderco - a Tenacious. Of course I wanted to find out how to flick it. Thank you very much for the explanation - now it works. 👍

for the drop, I use my thumb and the second knuckle of the index finger. I don't do the first swing instead I start with the drop and transition into the grip.
I've found that by using this variation I can pop the knife open in any direction, for instance at work yesterday a coworker needed a knife so I popped the knife open upwards and handed it to him handle first while I retained control of the blade.

Thank you, thank you. Got my first nice knife today (spyderco paramilitary 2) and been messing around all day trying to do this. After watching you do it a few times I can do it like a pro now

After getting a tenacious, my first spyderco knife, I wanted to try this and after a couple minutes of trying and adjusting my thumb position, I can do it pretty easily now without fiddling too much before doing it.

Thanks for this video, Jeff :)

I know this is an old video but I'm glad I watched it. I just got my first Spyderco (Shaman) a few weeks ago and couldn't figure it out. I thought maybe it was too heavy.. but nope. Thanks to this video it only took me 2-3 trys and now I can get it every time. Thanks!

Great instruction! I got it after a short while. The SpyderFlick that is. Haven't done the SpyderDrop yet. Thank you!

Great job! I have been trying for a few day and couldn't get it to fully deploy without also flicking my wrist. Half way thru your video i was doing it every time thanks for taking the time to make this video.

Thank you Jeff, just by the positioning of the knife in hand tip helped me flick right away👍🏼
