Logic 101 (#1): Introduction

Sentential logic (also called propositional logic, sentential calculus, and propositional calculus) is a formal method to derive conclusions from premises. Logic is omnipresent and necessary to succeed in fields like law, mathematics, computer science, social science, and philosophy. In other words, if you live on this Earth and want to succeed in life, you need a solid understanding of introductory logic.

High School needs to go back to basics and include a heavy dose of The Seven Liberal Arts And Sciences, . Which are Grammar, Rhetoric, Logic, Arithmetic, Geometry, Music, and Astronomy.

6:49 Ever since I gained interest in logic and understood how wide the implications of understanding logic are, I asked myself the same question. It's even one of my main talk point with people. If basic Maths and concepts related to language are to be well understood in our early life, why isn't logic as well ?
At university, we were asked, as a homework: "Imagine a world where something of your choice was different and describe this world."
While many of my colleagues used fantasy to answer (like a world where pingouins are the dominent species and such), I described a world where logic was taught in high school. It's a world where people didn't make decisions based on emotions or gullibility, a world where politics were not won by pleasing looks and postures, a world where rationality helped improving our well-being just like science helped improving our knowledge. It's a world where beliefs were considered as such and had to hold 100% truth or sound reasons to withstand the test of time. It's also a world that's not that far from ours, I believe it just lacks this one single property.
Thus, yes : why the #%&# isn't it taught in high school ?

I think learning logic is also useful for people who are ¨overly sentimental¨ (for lack of a better term), like I am. I believe applying it in daily life will be very helpful, given how this is stuff that doesn´t come very natural to me

Hi William, I really enjoyed this first 101 Introduction to Logic. The only thing I would have used the term process for computers as they have 'processors' vs 'think' which by definition (Merriam-W.) requires a 'mind' and the ability to form, have, recall, reflect, ponder, imagine, etc. in the mind. ;-)
