Sir Fredrick Banting? The guy who found out how to synthesise insulin and treat diabetes. Not even mentioned...

when i was 9 years old my grampa who was a long haul truck driver took me on a cross canada trip, as we got into southern ontario he pulled his rig over and gave me 20 dollars so i could give it to terry fox. terry should be known world wide for being one of the strongest and most heroic human beings ever to walk this planet. i am humbled to have just seen him in the flesh. what that young man undertook defies all human capability and he did it as a teen and even towards the end when his cancer returned he got back out on the lonley canadian highways and fought till he couldnt fight anymore.

It's funny that you ranked Tommy Douglas #9 when Canada voted for him as #1

I'm surprised there wasn't at least an honorable mention for the one person I knew for an absolute fact growing up was Canadian, yet spoke to the world, Peter Jennings. One of the greats of journalism.

As a huge hockey fan and someone who grew up loving Wayne Gretzky as any young Canadian does. I honestly believe Terry Fox should be #1. His legacy will live forever. What he has done outweighs all the records that Gretzky achieved.

Dallaire should've made it to the top 10. He risked his life by going against orders from both the UN and the Rwandan government in an attempt to prevent the Rwandan genocide, though he was only capable of saving 32, 000 lives rather than the 1.2 million who perished.

I first heard of Canada at the age of 7 in 1966 when I watched a movie on a projector I received for Christmas 'Trail Of The Mounties'. I fell in love with Canada immediately and would love to live there.
I'm Irish too incidentally!

How is a hockey player better than someone with camcer and a fake leg running a marathon coast to coast.

Terry Fox was the definition of determination. He ran 26 miles a day (full marathon) every day, day after day for weeks! Oh, on 1 leg and 1 prosthetic leg of course. He was not a professional athlete. Just a young man with a heart as big as Canada. Running to help others who have cancer. Show me a world class athlete who could accomplish this today with 2 legs!

You forgot Stomin’ Tom Conners. He may not have gotten worldwide acclaim, but he returned his 6 Juno’s because he felt that the Juno’s were not recognizing Canadian talent. Terry Fox should have been #1.
