Canon 5D Classic - The Best Camera of 2023

i absolutely love the fact that this camera can only shoot pictures and not video. makes the whole camera alot simpler to use.

Interesting commentary. My new camera is now 18 years old! 😮
When I bought my 5D in ‘06, it was a quantum leap forward for me. Only issue I ever had was the mirror falling off (sound familiar?). Didn’t much like that but the factory fixed it and it’s been fine ever since. Now long retired, I don’t use it a lot (that iPhone is just so handy) but lately have been shooting it in monochrome mode. It renders black and white tones beautifully. At 85, I’ll not likely replace it, though the newer gear is very tempting.
And yes, that Nifty Fifty is a great lens on this camera 😁

I bought a 5D Classic about 3 years ago as my first full frame camera, didn't use it much and bought the R6 shortly after. This is the best video that I've watched on that camera. Makes me want to go out and start shooting with it again. And I agree.. .the shutter click, when you snap a photo, sounds awesome. Great video!

We had the 5Dii, then got the 5Diii when it was released, and never upgraded again on DSLRs…absolute workhorse for video and stills. Robust and quick. We moved to other video cinema cams, but still make many stills with it. A good used one now is a very smart buy.

They are very similar to the Portra film especially the Portra 400.
I still shoot both film and digital.
Yes they are different but very close.
My 5D was purchased brand new and I was hooked on Canon before that purchase.
I started with a Pentax ME Super as my first SLR back in the 70’s.
I own Sony, Fujifilm, mirrorless, Rollieflex cameras, Canon film, Nikon film and Five Polaroids there is nothing that compares to my color science out of the Canon 5D.

Canon 5D Classic was the most talked about camera in 2023. Logically so. Take a direct out of the camera jpeg image and place it against an R5, Z9 or A1 image. Common viewers are likely to rate the Classic image above all.

Loved the video, thank you. The 5D classic, I acquired in 2023 also, was the third in the 5D series for me following on from the 5D II and 5D III. Absolutely love it and love what it represents as the formal beginning to the Canon digital full frame camera aimed at the hobbyist and professionals at the same time. I am glad it doesn't have the video function and fits better as a direct transition from analogue to digital. Can't believe the release will be 20 years old next year. As a side note, I also re-acquired the Canon 350D (same release year) for the collection and represents the first ever digital camera I owned.

I was looking for a cheap Canon 5D Classic because it's always been my dream camera since I bought my brand-new 20D.
I ended up buying the 5D II as I found one even cheaper than all 5D Classics on offer.

Awesome! It just goes to show that there's no such thing as an obsolete camera if it does what you need it to do. I've moved to mirrorless, selling my 1DX Mk III, 7D Mk II, and 20D and EF/EF-S lenses, but I held on to my very first digital, the 300D I bought back in 2003 with the 18-55 kit lens. It's just too much of an old friend to get rid of (that and the fact that I might get $5 for it in a trade-in 🙄). When I go out to do shooting, I'll use my R5, R5 Mk II and R6 Mk II, but for random walkaround shooting, I actually prefer the 300D. It's a nice compact size, and even 21 years on, it's a versatile shooter that provides good results.

Nice video. A few years ago I picked up a 5D MK II. I wanted one since it was released in 2008. I did a little talk about it on my channel showing images I've done with it. I love the older 5D's. Love your video.
